AS Roma appeal – decision

Match: UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg match between AS Roma and Liverpool FC (4-2), played on 2 May in Italy.

The UEFA Appeals Body met on 25 September following an appeal lodged by AS Roma against the decision announced by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) on 19 July 2018 which had suspended the AS Roma official James Pallotta for three (3) months from carrying out his function during UEFA competition matches in which he would otherwise participate, starting from AS Roma’s first UEFA competition match of the 2018/2019 season. The Italian club was also fined €19,000 for setting off of fireworks, insufficient organization, and blocked stairways.

The appeal lodged by AS Roma is partially upheld. Consequently, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body’s decision of 19 July 2018 is amended as follows:

to suspend the AS Roma official James Pallotta for one (1) month from carrying out his function during UEFA competition matches in which he would otherwise participate, starting from AS Roma’s first UEFA competition match of the 2018/2019 season. In particular, the official may not be in the technical area or communicate directly or indirectly with the team's players and/or technical staff during the match and may not enter the dressing room or tunnel before or during the match.

The remaining points of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body’s decision of 19 July 2018 are confirmed.
